Former Saints center/guard Will Clapp has joined the team's coaching staff as an offensive assistant after announcing his retirement following an eight-year playing career last week.
Clapp, a New Orleans native and product of both Brother Martin High School and LSU, began his career with the Saints as a seventh-round pick in 2018. He spent his first four seasons with the Saints, followed by two with the Chargers and one with the Bills. Clapp returned to New Orleans last year but wound up on injured reserve after suffering a Lisfranc injury in the preseason.
Clapp began helping the coaching staff while on IR last season. He has a longstanding relationship with Saints offensive line coach Brendan Nugent, who coached him in New Orleans from 2018-2021 and in Los Angeles from 2022-2023.
Clapp will help fill the void left by another former player-turned-coach, Jahri Evans, who left last month to take a job with the Steelers.
