Saints rework contracts of Alvin Kamara, Justin Reid, Juwan Johnson, Chase Young
The Saints have started to get under the cap by reworking the contracts of Alvin Kamara, Justin Reid, Juwan Johnson and Chase Young.
For Reid, Johnson and Young, they were just standard deals. Nothing to see other than the cap number dropping.
Alvin Kamara's is ... different. They didn't do a standard conversion. They pushed the deal through as "other amount treated as signing bonus," which means nothing is yet decided. It leaves the door open for ... something.
Could be something. Could be nothing. We'll update as we find things out.
UPDATE: So, with Kamara, the Saints used the 50% rule, which they can do when the second year salary is less than the first. Kamara's salary next year is listed at $1.345M, which means they were able to prorate $10.155M this year on the books. Works like a signing bonus on the books, but not guaranteed.
Basically, the Saints could move Kamara and the money would travel. Just keeps their flexibility in tact.
