The Saints plan to sign former Colts safety Julian Blackmon in the wake of Tyrann Mathieu’s retirement, a source confirmed.
Blackmon (6-0, 202) has shown a lot of playmaking ability and versatility while starting for most of five seasons in Indy, as both a strong and free safety as well as nickel back. But health has hurt his ability to stay consistent, including a torn Achilles in 2021 and shoulder injuries in both 2023 and 2024.
Blackmon has seven INTs over the last two years and 10 for his career since being drafted in the third round out of Utah in 2020. He will compete with Jordan Howden, rookie Jonas Sanker and veteran Terrell Burgess among others for a role alongside Justin Reid in New Orleans’ defense.
