Saints get C Luke Fortner in return for Khalen Saunders
The Saints are receiving center Luke Fortner from Jacksonville in exchange for Khalen Saunders.
Fortner was a third-round pick of the Jags in 2022. Depth player. Team needs depth at center after Will Clapp went down with a season-ending injury. Torricelli Simpkins played center against the Jags on Sunday, but this probably moves him more toward guard reps going forward.
Fortner probably isn't someone who will press for starting snaps, but the Saints do need an insurance plan at center considering how reliant the team is on stable play at that position and the fact that Erik McCoy has suffered multiple injuries the last few years.
