The Saints and Brandin Cooks have agreed to mutually part ways, according to a source.
Cooks renegotiated his contract down to facilitate his release, according to a source. The full terms of that agreement are not yet known, but part of the agreement was to remove the portion of his 2026 salary that was guaranteed (about $1.7M).
Cooks had been seeking a trade or release and the Saints agreed to grant his release.
Cooks had signed here with Derek Carr on the roster, but the circumstances have since changed and New Orleans has struggled to win games and get Cooks highly involved in the offense.
UPDATE: Saints coach Kellen Moore confirmed that Cooks asked for his release and they felt good about accommodating.
When asked who will benefit most from added snaps, Moore said Mason Tipton was the obvious answer (as a third option along with Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele).
