Sean Payton always says he sees himself as a teacher. While he is considered one of the game’s greatest offensive minds, revered for his play design and ability to exploit weaknesses, he knows that none of that matters unless he knows how to teach and is always working the best information. And like any good teacher, he surrounds himself with quality resources that can open his eyes to new things and help him identify areas to focus his attention. Payton has always sought various opinions. The team used legendary offensive line coach Alex Gibbs as a consultant for years. This year Payton hired long-time offensive guru Jim Chaney to the staff as an offensive analyst and brought in Mike Martz to lend another set of eyes and share his thoughts while he’s in town this week.
