New Orleans had to get better on defense. Players left the building at every level during the path to cap compliance. The pillars remained in place, but pillars are only useful if there is a roof to hold up, and the roof is only worth holding up if there are no holes. The Saints entered the draft with a lot of work to do to put things back together. The job isn’t done. There are still some things to manage, and not every question has a solid answer, but there are at least no longer wide-open holes with no solutions. Ohio State linebacker Pete Werner should finally give the Saints an answer next to Demario Davis, and Stanford cornerback Paulson Adebo gives New Orleans another option at cornerback. Along with first-round pass rusher Payton Turner, the defense now has three new pieces to add to an already solid foundation. Will it be enough? Time will tell, but it is clear where the Saints feel they need the most improvement.
